This Is a Taco! Book Review

This Is a Taco!

This Is a Taco! is a clever and humorous book. The pages include nonfiction style facts about squirrels with Taco the squirrel demonstrating those facts, but not always in the way you’d expect. As the facts continue, and the lack of tacos and threat of predators becomes more real, Taco the squirrel takes action, and changes the facts with a red pen to better suit his needs. #ThisIsATaco #ChildrensBook #PictureBook #LionForge #NetGalleyAndrew Cangelose (Author)

Bear's Adventure Book Review

Bear's Adventure

Bear finds a recently landed hot-air balloon and takes a nap in its basket. As he sleeps, the hot-air balloon takes off, and Bear's adventure begins. Landing at the beginning of a costume parade lets everyone assume that Bear is just a man in a costume, so he is able to go from event to event (from being interviewed by a reporter to riding on a motorcycle and more). Bear, however, is still a bear and is easily spooked by loud noises and too many people around him. He eventually makes his way back home, but truly has an adventure along the way.

Overall, Bear's Adventure had potential but something was a bit off. It may be the longer text or the odd situations bear found himself in, but I was hoping for more out of the text. The illustrations, on the other hand, are quite unique and interesting and helped carry the story.

I Am a Tyrannosaurus Book Review

I Am a Tyrannosaurus

I Am a Tyrannosaurus is a sweet story that sends a very positive message about helping others, even those you might not normally be friends with. #Tyrannosaurusseries #Museyon #NetGalley #PictureBook #ChildrensLitTatsuya Miyanishi

Children’s Fiction, Picture Book

Publication Date: July 1, 2018

As a young pteranodon grows up, he learns lessons from his parents. Dad shows him how to fly and warns him of the nasty tyrannosaurus. Mom tells him to be kind and always help those in need. When the young pteranodon is almost full-grown, his parents leave the nest as pteranodon parents do.

As the young pteranodon sleeps, a tyrannosaurus climbs up the mountain to snatch him, but a nearby volcano explodes sending the tyrannosaurus tumbling down the mountain and he lays hurt in a pile of rubble. Pteranodon remembers his father's warning and is worried about the nasty tyrannosaurus, but he also remembers his mother's advice to be kind to those in need, so the pteranodon decided to help the badly wounded tyrannosaurus who can't see him because of his injuries.

I Am a Tyrannosaurus is a sweet story that sends a very positive message about helping others, even those you might not normally be friends with. Thick, black-line illustrations with bold colors combine with the text to make a very engaging and thought-provoking story.

STEAM Play & Learn is filled with engaging projects perfect for preschool and early-school aged children. One of my favorite parts of this book is that it is simply broken down into three sections: easy projects (put out the materials and let kids work), medium projects (some adult assistance will be needed), and difficult projects (adult-led). As a parent and a teacher, I love that I can quickly choose what will work best for me and my kiddos. The images and illustrations are colorful and attention grabbing and each project has clear, easy-to-follow directions. From Frozen Goop to Salty Circuits kids are sure to have a blast learning and exploring!

Lulu Is a Rhinoceros Book Review

Lulu Is a Rhinoceros
Though Lulu looks like a bulldog on the outside, she knows she's a rhinoceros on the inside! Lulu's journey can be read in two ways, either as a children's story about a dog's adventure to be herself or as a metaphor for people who are transgendered. Either way, there are clear messages: stay true to yourself, don't judge other people by their looks, and be yourself no matter what others say. #LuluIsARhinoceros #NetGalley #PictureBook #ChildrensLit

This book (and all others in the series) is a great and rather thorough introduction to Harriet Tubman and her inspiring life.

In this comic-book-style picture book, Pluto isn't just peeved. He's kind of wallowing in self-pity. Pluto doesn't understand why he was demoted from his former status as a planet, so he sets out around the museum to find out. He runs into other exhibits like the Dinosaur Hall, Our Microscopic World, and the Geology Hall where he learns a lot about how science works and what caused his demotion.

In the end, he learns that scientists are always adjusting and evolving their theories based on the evidence and data they find. Even though he isn't a planet anymore, scientists are still very interested to learn a lot about him.
