Animals Do, Too! Book Review

Animals Do, Too! introduces kids to how wild animals and humans are alike. We dance, grow food, play tag, and blow bubbles. And guess what? Animals do too! The picture book also explains how, in the animal world, these activities serve other purposes too like practicing evading predators or creating a nest for their eggs.Animals Do, Too! The Thing Lou Couldn't Do is a great book to introduce the ideas of grit and resilience. There are things in life that we can't do, but how can we do them unless we try? And guess what? Sometimes, even when we've worked hard, we won't get it the first time. We may need to try again. The Thing Lou Couldn't Do

Lou and her friends love adventure! Building fortresses, rescuing wild animals, being race car drivers, or being a deep sea diver - it's what they do. But when a pirate adventure needs a ship, and their ship is up in a tree, Lou knows she'll have to sit this one out. She's never climbed a tree before and she doesn't think she can. She avoids the ship, she makes excuses, and she comes up with SO MANY REASONS not to try. Lou simply cannot climb that tree.

Her friends, however, finally give her the oomph she needs to try and climb. And as Lou grabs on and starts to climb, she struggles and she pulls herself and... she doesn't make it. But that's okay. As she and her friends run off to play a new game, she knows she'll try to climb that tree again.

Sometimes, even when we've worked hard, we won't get it the first time. We may need to try again. The Thing Lou Couldn't Do is a great conversation starter for kids!

Spork is a great picture book for teaching about how differences can be strengths. While you might not feel like you fit into any one group, especially if you're bi-cutlery like Spork, you do have a place and a purpose. A great conversation starter for kids!Spork

Spork has a hard time fitting in. He isn't quite a spoon, he isn't quite a fork, and he never seems to get picked for meals. Even when he tries to hide who is to fit in, he always seems to still be different and people notice. But one day, a new messy thing arrives. It can't handle a spoon or a fork. It needs something different, and it's Spork's time to shine!

When Dreams Come True is a British coming-of-age novel about Charlie (Charlotte) who would rather be biking or palling around with her three best friends Toby, Max, and Allie. But as the new school year starts, her friends, especially Allie, seem to be more interested in the opposite sex. While Charlie doesn't understand this sudden change, she finds herself having some of the same feelings.

When her aunt becomes suddenly ill, Charlie ends up missing school as her parents take care of her aunt, but she's still able to catch up with her friends when they come to visit on the weekend.

Led by teenage emotions and coming-of-age confusions, When Dreams Come True is a good read for someone who wants a book that focuses on crushes and first kisses. Other parts of the plot, like Aunt Jenny's illness and some family drama, are not as well developed.
